Born on 21 March 2006 in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Myung-jun Kim is quickly emerging as one of the brightest prospects of his generation. The young striker currently plays for Jong Genk, the reserve side of Belgian top-tier club Genk, competing in the Challenger Pro League, the second division of Belgian football.

Style of Play and Strengths

Kim is a physically imposing centre-forward, known for his strength in aerial duels and ability to shield the ball—traits that are complemented by solid technical skills. A natural goalscorer, he’s already made a name for himself in youth international competitions, showcasing a sharp eye for goal and clinical finishing.

Versatile in attack, Kim isn’t just a target man. He actively contributes to the build-up play and has a keen positional sense, enabling him to exploit spaces and link up well with teammates. Calm under pressure and quick-thinking inside the box, he possesses the qualities of a modern striker—efficient, smart, and team-oriented.

Early Development and Career Path

Kim began his footballing journey at Icheon Junior FC in 2015, before continuing his development at Icheon Nam Elementary School from 2016 to 2018. His talent soon earned him a place in the prestigious academy of Pohang Steelers, one of South Korea’s leading clubs.

He represented the Steelers at U15 level from 2019 to 2021, and then at U18 level from 2022 to early 2024. In January 2025, Kim made a pivotal move in his career by signing for Jong Genk, underlining his ambition to break through in European football and take on a new level of competition.

At just 19 years old, Myung-jun Kim is a name worth remembering—an exciting talent blending physical presence with technical finesse, and one that’s already turning heads in Belgium.
