United looked in full control thanks to goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot, but Lyon hit back with strikes from Corentin Tolisso and Nicolás Tagliafico. But in a breathtaking finale, the impossible became reality: a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, an equaliser from Kobbie Mainoo, and the dramatic winner from Harry Maguire, sending Old Trafford into utter chaos. “The sounds inside the stadium were the most beautiful I’ve ever heard,” said Amorim. “I feel sorry for those who left early - they’ll be regretting it now.”
Europa League: Last Hope for Redemption
With a disastrous domestic campaign leaving United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, the Europa League is now the club’s final lifeline, both to salvage their season and to secure a place in next year’s Champions League. “We deserve the criticism,” Amorim admitted. “But we still have a chance to build something special.”
