Lyon Heartbreak at Old Trafford, But Tolisso Reflects: “One of the Most Beautiful Moments of My Career”

Despite a dramatic and heartbreaking 5-4 defeat to Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-finals, Corentin Tolisso found a silver lining in the pain: the incredible support from Olympique Lyon’s fans.
Sent off late in regulation time and forced to watch the final stages from the stands, the midfielder paid an emotional tribute to the travelling supporters, speaking to RMC Sport after the match.
“Even at 2-2, we could feel them - they were nervous, but they were there,” Tolisso said. “Our fans were incredible. I’ve never experienced anything like that atmosphere, not even in my previous years at Lyon. When we were ahead - first 3-2, then 4-2 - I was in the stands and could hear them singing together. It was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever had wearing this shirt.”
Painful Exit, but Grateful for the Fans
Tolisso didn’t hide his disappointment over the result but chose to focus on the connection with the fans: “We couldn’t give them what they deserved - they travelled so far to be with us. I also believe we deserved more. But the message from our supporters came through loud and clear.”
In a night full of emotion and drama, Lyon may have bowed out of Europe, but their spirit -and the voice of their supporters - left a lasting impression.
