PREMIER - Thomas Tuchel returns to the failed transfer of Jules Kounde
The reigning European champion last May, Chelsea hit hard this summer by recruiting Romelu Lukaku for € 115m and Saul in the form of a loan with option to buy. Jules Koundé could have come too. Negotiations took place between the Blues and Sevilla FC but the Spanish club refused the advances of their English counterpart.
They are willing to let go of the former Bordelais, but only for the amount of the release clause, € 80 million. In an interview with Sky Sports, the German coach of Chelsea returned to this failure.
“Marina (Granovskaia, the club manager) was in charge of that. We were in contact and Petr Cech (technical and performance advisor) was in contact as well. We three knew the whole situation. We knew things could happen, but they could come late. We were also aware that nothing could happen. I told everyone that I would still be happy, even if we couldn't bring in a player. We would find the solution within the team. But it was clear that we tried to do Koundé and Saul, but it was very, very late during this transfer window. ” Tuchel has obviously already moved on
